I guess if I try really hard to look on the bright side, there are a few good things about getting everything important to you stolen
1. They left my Third Eye Blind cd, which I’ve used in other moments of sadness to keep myself happy - so that’s ironic and fun 2. I can feel less guilty about buying things that I wanted but had no need to buy when I already had them [i.e. new shoes, new perfume, etc.] 3. I can get a new computer! Which is actually just annoying. And not fun. 4. I can remember Italy in my head! Which is way more creative than from the 1000+ pictures I took while I was there 5. I can remember my NYC trip in my head! Which is also way more creative than actually keeping all of the phyiscal souviners from my trip. That were free. And cool. 6. I can re-do all of my projects for this mystical “portfolio” that I’m supposed to magically produce so that I can work for the rest of my life, etc. which is WAY better than just having all the sketches I did at the very beginning of this year
“Maybe I should drink some water…well, because, literally, all I’ve had to drink today is margaritas.”—Me, after walking around half of the important things in Rome all day, after getting SQUISHED in a Metro Tren, and after eating Mexican food in Italy at ‘La Cucaracha’
if Facebook and/or Twitter didn’t inform you yet.
(Ew, I have a twitter? Yes. I do. Only because they second someone said “it’s a mass text-message, 24-7” I was like, “OH. HOLY. CRAP. I LOVE TEXT MSGS. Done.” And the world was over. But fuck if I ever say “tweet” - I am not a bird.)
Anyway, it’s pretty lovely here, I must say. I really do like the change of pace (slowwwww). I’ve been keeping a dorky journal of all the things I’ve been doing (day trips to places like Viterbo, making ravioli with my HANDS, etc.) and I love the four other students that Sam goes to school with. (Yes. Five students at this school. Talk about some serious one-on-one learning!)
I ordered cookies by myself in Italian at a bakery close to school today! Pretty effing awesome.
Tomorrow is a market here in Tuscania in the morning, Saturday I believe we’re going to Rome to walk around during the day and sleep there because on Sunday I fly home. Really bummed I can’t make it to DK’s concert (The Chariot) in Rome tonight - but it’s really impractical for me to go alone to Rome, when I don’t speak or read any Italian at all (still know a WHOLE lot of Spanish tho, which is surprising!), and have to stay in a hostel for two nights before Sam came to Rome.
It’s sad, though, because today I sort of feel like I’m getting used to it here, and honestly, I wouldn’t mind staying for a real long time…
Pictures soon! Probably when I get home Sunday or Monday.
Then Tuesday I’m off to NYC on a bus with my studio kids! ((www.atltonyc.com))
Also, didn’t know if you knew, but don’t view my tumblr in internet explorer. It looks awful.
We only have about two weeks or so left before we embark on this wicked road trip to NYC to try and understand “the real world”of design on a bigger scale than Atlanta can offer. Please consider helping me out, and the rest of the students in my junior year Georgia Tech industrial design studio, by donating to ATLtoNYC.com.
We’ve raised enough money for our transportation, but we’re still short when it comes for the $$$ for us to find a place to sleep.
